Fishing in the Maldives



Close your eyes for moment. Now imagine yourself on a dhoni, the sky painted with tints of rose and gold, breezes of fresh air, the smell of salt water and the feeling the warmth of the setting sun on your skin.

Fishing has been the life blood of the Maldivian Economy. And has been enjoyed by Maldivians for a long time. Skip Jack, dried and frozen is the most famous Maldivian product and is the main export of the country.
Fishing boat building has been a craft native to the Maldives. Projects for maintaining this skill have been organized on a grand scale.

With the sunset, the shores of the island and market are of the marine drive, Male’ becomes crowded as the fishermen return from the Water.

The Market in the Male’ City is a hectic and alive with trolleys loaded with fresh tuna or skip jacks. You will see locals scattered all over the market place and see people buying bags of fresh fish.

Here in the Maldives you can enjoy Big Game fishing. Which is the most suitable during the morning outside the atolls. You can catch big fishes such as sail fish, Marlins, Barracuda, Sword fish and many other big catches.
But the most famous and common type of fishing in the Maldives is Night time fishing. You can catch snappers, emperors, barracuda and jacks during night time fishing. During night time fishing you can enjoy the rhythmic music of waves and gentle breeze amidst nature’s splendor.

Other types of fishing include shore fishing, jigging and bottom fishing.
